Eight months after his death, singer Luther Vandross' friends are helping him out of the closet.

While some Vandross fans may be appalled by the exposé, Michael Roberson, director of gay group People of Color in Crisis, argues, "Clearly, a lot of black gay performers feel they can't come out. Yet it would be important, particularly to black, gay, young people, to see black gay role models.". . . . . . .Full Story

Hey. Hazim here. Actually, I'm glad he might have been gay. For all those times my aunt ticked me off by blasting Luther Vandross from the stereo and professing her love for him. I actually don't mind Luther's music, but it's good to know my aunt will be heartbroken by this piece of news (I think I want to be the first to tell her). Oh, and I hate my aunt. @ 8:31 AM

If luther vandross is gay then maybe this means that more gays will be accepted not only in the entertainment industry but also in society at large. I loved luther's music and his sexuality never crossed my mind. we all have a lot to learn from his life because for all of his triumphs, his life was too short and probably he suffered too much for the person that he was. @ 6:49 PM

This isn't too much of a shocker.

I thought it was common knowledge that he was gay.

Either way, his life was way too short, but his music will always be wonderful and timeless... @ 5:39 AM

FairyDogMother, Thank you.

I thought it was common knowledge also. I saw him on Oprah in the early '90s openly discussing being gay. @ 1:04 PM

Love this man. It's so sad that he had to live his life in the closet. No wonder his health was a constant uphill battle. @ 11:17 PM

I don't know/care whether he was in the closet or not. However, if he was, it was because he chose to be. It might have been out of fear, it might have been another reason. I just think it's pretty tasteless for someone to "out" a dead guy. If Vandross had wanted the world to know, he'd have told them. It was his story to tell, not someone elses'... especially a someone with an agenda. Using a dead guy to promote your agenda just isn't tasteful. @ 8:41 PM

before luther passed away, he was known to be combative and temperamental when ask about his private life... and i'm not sure if it's on there or not but luther once admitted that he force the background singers and the band to sign a contract meaning not one word was to say about his love life don't take my word for it...luther is a great singer, gay or not...he is accepted by all people not only fans but those who know him best....even if he gay, it's his business we as fans or whatever should mind our own business..ONLY GOD CAN JUDGE HIM. @ 12:28 PM

You people that say it`s not a big deal to be gay are all stupid and ill-informed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God never created an Adam and a Steve. He created man and woman for a reason. You are all confused and should educate yourselves about the God whom you claim is the only judge coz you know jack about Him. Luther is already rottin` in Hell for his secret gay behavior and so will your gay friend. @ 4:08 AM

Everybody fell in love with Luthers music first, that is why they all accepted the fact that he was gay. Given he wasn't a famous entertainer they all wouldn't have even cared at all. I think being gay is so wrong. As mention dong under estimate God and his Judgement. He created man and then woman, and he told them to be fruitful and become many. Only a man a woman can produce children. So he did not make man to be with man or woman to be with woman. In the bible he states his feelings for man lusting after man and woman lusting after woman. He detested it, and most gay people are atheist. @ 6:28 AM

everything tht u all r say'n is tru but let us NOT FORGET....My GOD is a forgiving GOD and if luther chose tht life style SO BE IT. i personally dont condone same sex relations but who r we to judge. No sin is bigger than another so by u all sitting here gossiping u r commiting a sin just as equivalent as the one luther committed. @ 12:02 PM
